Place the subject directly into the sun to get the most light and the least amount of shadows. The way to tell that is to look at your own shadow. Have your shadow or your tripod pointing directly to the subject. That will guarantee you’re getting the most light on your subject. Practiceph3-4p. Flat Sunlight
On a sunny day, take a picture early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the shadows are long.
