Models, Super-Models, Portfolios, Oh My!
Paris, France, circa 1990-I'm visiting the office of Xavier Moreau to interview him for a feature on fashion models.
Moreau was a close associate of Helmut Newton, the world-famous fashion photographer whose provocative pictures made it to mainstream Vogue.
I was amazed how much super models made. But even more astounded by how top model agencies, like Elite where we now were sitting, how they could come up with such astounding rates-and get clients happy to pay them.
"There is no limit to what people will pay to be around beauty," Moreau said with a smile, like he too was amazed. Moreau was currently the publicity manager for Elite Modeling Agency.
That pretty much sums up the allure. And lucky those people invited to attend model parties.
And photographers who know the right models can usually get on almost any guest list.
Forget business tycoons or bankers. It's the photographers who get invited to places beyond their status in society.
That's because it's the photographers who help the models promote their beauty.
Only they are allowed backstage even if they having nothing to do with the show. Other than being a friend of one of the models.
