Lessonvp2-2. Pep talk
Thinking like a movie maker will help you improve your production and storytelling skills. What you will learn You will learn the importance of shooting b-roll, making regular script updates, setting up a base camp, and subconsciously, you already know how to edit and shoot movies. Believe it or not, you do it every night. Base Camp Set up a secure space. It could be a corner of the shooting area, a virtual office, or the trunk of your car. You don’t want to lug everything you might need everywhere. Pick and choose the equipment you’ll need and leave the rest. Make Dreams Come True Do you ever notice how easy it is to follow a dream, no matter how wacky the storyline is? Your dreams always have excellent camera work and editing. So the goal is to make movies like you make dreams. Daily Script Changes Assume that the script and shot list will need daily updates. This is normal. Constantly refine your project by writing to the images you shoot. So the writer in you is always on call. B-Roll The ‘A-Roll’ is the main shot, like an interview. The ‘B-Roll’ is all the details shots that fill in the story. Shoot everything you might need. You are better off with too many shot choices than too few. In general, make all b-roll clips at least 15 seconds long. Several seconds are lost starting and stopping the camera, which jars the image. So in effect, a 15-second shot has only ten good seconds. Conclusion Videos are not about technical equipment. It’s about pooling all your psychological and physical resources and moving your entire production in one direction to achieve one story goal. Make a 1:00-2:00 video about one of your nighttime dreams. Tell about the story. But also tell about what you see. Are you in the dream? Wide angle. How many people are in the shot? What action? What details? A dream is a perfectly made movie so start remembering your fantasies like watching a movie. This means that at night you already know how to make good movies! |
