How to Take Better Pictures

Lesson 116. Dark Skin Portraits

SCRIPT
When shooting subjects with dark skin, avoid white items in the picture.

The extreme contrast makes getting a good exposure difficult. Keep the background medium to dark. You’ll get better skin details.
VIDEO
PRACTICE
Take three pictures of a person with dark skin.
  1. Take a picture of the person against a light background, preferably they are wearing light clothes.
  2. Take a picture of the person against a dark background, preferably they are wearing dark clothes.
  3. Take a picture of the person against middle range colors, wearing middle range clothes.
Study your results. If you can, study how to adjust the exposure on your camera so you can avoid these kinds of portrait problems. Write in 25-75 words your observations in your Progress Report.
