A. Serial comma with single words
In a series of three or more when the items are all single, not plural, write like this:
gold, silver, and bronze
The Olympic medals you can win are gold, silver, or bronze.
B. Serial comma with phrases
In a series of three or more phrases, when the items are all single, not plural, write like this:
She opened the book, read it, and wrote about it.
He opened the refrigerator, saw one donut was left, and grabbed it for breakfast.
C. Names with and without commas
When writing a business name, usually you do not need the last comma.
Smith, Jones and Tracy
Smith, Jones and Company
No comma is needed when the description is part of the name
